The Missing Link
As a hardworking musician or supportive parent, you know the routine: hours of scales, technical drills, and perfecting notes with a regular instrumental teacher. But when a major scholarship audition, high-level exam, or competition comes around, a great performance requires more than solid technique to be truly competitive or enjoyable.
When the moment arrives, technical skill can only get you so far. The elite combination of refined artistry, confident stage presence, and psychological readiness is what truly captivates an audience, wins over adjudicators, and leaves you excited for the next performance.
Our Centred Stage™ Coaching Programmes work alongside regular instrumental lessons to build the psychological resilience, elite stage presence, and deep, authentic musicality needed to reach full potential.
Minus the burnout.
Give yourself or your child the competitive edge to secure scholarships, ace exams, and thrive in competitions with a calm, focused mindset, elite musicality, and a magnetic stage presence.
Co-led by internationally acclaimed performers and educators Arna & Alex Morton, Morton Music’s Centred Stage™ is a premium, specialised suite of performance coaching programmes for individual musicians and chamber ensembles.

Arna Morton is a defining, genre-fluid violinist with over 15 years of experience on global stages, spanning elite classical concert halls and massive commercial music festivals.
Following a distinguished tenure as Principal Second Violin with the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra from 2021–2026, Arna now performs full-time as a solo artist for prestigious classical and commercial concerts, high-profile corporate galas, and bespoke luxury weddings.
Recent career highlights include performing as a featured solo artist alongside SYNTHONY and SIX60 for the historic, sold-out Once In A Lifetime inaugural concert at Ōtautahi Christchurch's One New Zealand Stadium. Internationally, she was handpicked to perform alongside Europe's elite musicians for Orchestre Visionnaire's inaugural concert at the legendary Royal Concertgebouw in Amsterdam.
Arna frequently performs as a guest artist with every major New Zealand orchestra and the New Zealand String Quartet, and has been a regularly featured artist at the Adam Chamber Music Festival. She also tours and records with the Morton Trio alongside her husband, Alex Morton, and NZ pianist Liam Wooding.
An accomplished academic, Arna holds a Bachelor and Master of Musical Arts from the New Zealand School of Music, and a PhD in Violin Performance from the University of Melbourne. Using a critical, reflexive approach, her doctoral research developed a highly personal interpretive methodology focused on musical authenticity. This research was anchored by her work on Britten's Violin Concerto, which she performed with the University of Melbourne Symphony Orchestra after winning the MCM Concerto Competition. She was also the joint winner of the NZ National Concerto Competition, performing Szymanowski's First Violin Concerto and Ravel's Tzigane with the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra.
As an educator and performance coach, Arna teaches students from primary to tertiary levels. She has mentored multiple prize-winning ensembles at the regional and national finals of the CMNZ NZCT Chamber Music Contest, and has guided numerous students, both academically and artistically, to gain prestigious NZQA Scholarships.

Alex Morton is one of Aotearoa New Zealand's leading freelance French horn players, highly sought after as a soloist, chamber and orchestral musician, performance coach, and musical director.
Alex gained his Bachelor of Music from the New Zealand School of Music in 2013 before going on to study performance at the Australian National Academy of Music from 2014 – 2017. Alex has held contracts as Principal Horn with Orchestra Victoria, and as Associate-Principal with both the West Australian and Christchurch Symphony Orchestras. He has also performed as a guest musician with every major symphony orchestra across Australia and New Zealand. As a chamber musician, he tours domestically and internationally with the Morton Trio, alongside his wife Arna Morton and pianist Liam Wooding, with whom he recorded a debut album in 2024.
Equally passionate about education and leadership, Alex runs a thriving brass studio, co-leads the popular 'Brass Blast' workshop weekends, and serves as the Musical Director for the 50s Up Brass Band as well as the Middleton Grange School orchestras.
As a performance mindset coach, Alex helps musicians globally build stage confidence, optimise their practice, and rediscover the joy of their craft. In 2020, he launched an online course introducing his science-led High Intensity Interval Practice (HIIP) method. His coaching framework has proven so effective that its reach now extends well beyond music, helping professionals in medicine, construction, and competitive sport climbing achieve peak performance.

Our Wellbeing-First Philosophy
Unlike traditional, high-pressure programs that focus solely on results at the expense of a participant's mental health, Centred Stage™ prioritises musician wellbeing first.
We firmly believe that elite performance does not have to come at the expense of enjoyment.
In fact, quite the opposite is true!
By blending elite musical artistry training with advanced performance mindset coaching, we ensure our participants feel grounded, focused, and completely centred the moment they step into the spotlight, giving them the tools to perform at their absolute best under pressure and (most crucially) deeply enjoy the experience.
