Musician Photography

Whether it’s on the job or for a staged portrait, as a musician, I know firsthand how uncomfortable it can be having your photo taken.

Musicians take great pride in portraying a convincing appearance of their craft in photos. But sometimes, despite our best efforts to pose in a way that makes the pictures believable to the discerning eye, when a non-musically-trained photographer captures us, the final images can often come out looking awkward and unnatural.

We’ve all seen it: an image taken at the wrong angle causing a weird-looking bowhold or exaggerated double chin, something that can be easily avoided with an experienced eye behind the lens.

And look, I claim to be a professional musician, NOT a professional photographer; but through capturing countless portraits of my muso friends and colleagues over the years – including during my time as Social Media Specialist for the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra in 2022 – I’ve developed a real love and understanding of the craft, both in capturing a great image and in directing a photoshoot where you feel comfortable and relaxed.

So if you’re after some attractive and – most crucially – believable photographs of you with your instrument to use on your website, for concert programmes, or for social media, I can help!

Hi, I’m Arna.

Violinist and muso-specialised photographer, excited to help you transform your brand with convincing images you’ll love to share.
